The magnificently beautiful coast is part of the Niseko-Shakotan-Otaru Coast Quasi-National Park, and the unique atmosphere of the land comes from its herring port buildings, recalling the great old days when herring fishing flourished.

There are also the nationally-renowned Otaru Aquarium and the marina, and it also serves as a base for ocean leisure activities.
